School is over now, so I’ve had a lot more down time to hang around post and with my neighbors which has been really pleasant.
The other day I was walking home from the radio station and I saw five of my 1ere students trying to get on the same moto. (Keep in mind, my 1ere students are mostly 20-24 year old grown men.) Right as the motorcycle was taking off, one of them lost a flip-flop, and the whole shenaniganry started again. I, as any casual observer would, proceeded to laugh at them. To which they responded:
Boy 1: Mrs. Hane is smiles!
Boy 2: We are trying to climb the moto, Mrs, but …
Boy 3: It is difficult!!
Boy 4: He is too fat (pointing to the chubby boy who had somehow wound up in the middle.)
Boy 5: I am sorry.
I hadn’t laughed that hard in a while. I like when my students speak English.
In other news: I’m on my way down to Yaounde for my mid service medical exams, which should be fun– mostly because lots of other volunteers will be there and it will be interesting to see everyone. That’s all for now.
